Comment from Ride Leader
This is a long loop circling around Lake Sammamish via the Issaquah/Sammamish Plateau and Bellevue Crossroads/Lake Hills. The route will take us through some roads with little or no shoulders and some very busy roads/highway…hopefully not too busy on a Saturday morning. This will be a challenging ride and not advised for those who are not used to riding some hills.
We will go at a comfortable pace for the group, but it’s expected that people choosing this ride really want to ride some hills and know they are able to ride the terrain and distance comfortably. The route is generally rolling, with hill climbs at the Issaquah Creek Trail (~1.5 miles) to Highlands Dr. on the Issaquah Plateau, several shorter hills through Sammamish Plateau, and the Bel-Red Road Hill(1+ miles). Depending on weather/group interest/time, we may optionally add a side trip around the Newport Way area.
Please note that even if it starts out cool in the morning, it should warm up quickly, so be prepared for that. Bring two water bottles and energy snacks to eat along the way, so you can stay hydrated and fueled up. There’s no destination lunch stop planned so please eat something before you come. There will, however, be options for a quick stop for a snack along the way (most likely Sammamish &/or Marymoor.
Route Directions
- Start @ Sunset Elementary School
- Leave parking lot and head east on NW Sammamish Rd.
- Right on East Lk Sammamish, left to Issaquah Creek Trail (just left of I-90 West off ramp at the signal light.)
- up to Highlands Drive to Issaquah Pine Lk Road
Alternative route from Blueneck: Instead of going down Issaquah Pine Lk Road, I recommend
making a right onto Issaquah Fall City Road. Continue past Klahanie and then
turn left onto Beaver Lake Rd (part of the Flying Wheels Route)
and continue on to Sunny Hills Elementary and then right onto
Issaquah Pine Lk Road up to 228th.
(I’ve ridden parts of the Issaquah Pine Lk Road and there is no
good riding there until you get near Sunny Hills Elementary.)
Thanks! - Right on 228th continue through Sammamish
- Road becomes Sahalee Way
- Left at Redmond – Fall City Road
- Left to East Sammamish Pkwy
- Turn right go thru Marymoor Park
- Left at West Lk Sammamish Pkwy
- Veer right up Bel-Red Road
- Left at NE 30th
- Right at 164th
- Left at SE 14th, becomes 168th SE
- Left at SE 26th
- Right on West Lk Sammamish then up Sambica hill to Sunset
